Events Coordinator (Paid position) - currently filled

This position is responsible for all events hosted by The Foundation at both facilities, The Peel Mansion and Compton Gardens & Conference Center.  This position will handle sales referrals and serve as the key contact to renters once a contract has been signed.  In addition, the role of events coordinator is to serve as the liaison to event vendors.

Other job responsibilities include:

Event Management - Fundraisers and Programs

  • Meet with staff and board members to discuss theme/timeline for events.  Responsible for getting budget, planning event logistics, and gathering ideas with others.
  • Meet and stay in contact with all appropriate vendors for a public or private event.
  • Ability to problem solve day of event.
  • Prepare all materials and supplies for events.
  • Prepare event rooms.

Event Management - Outside Events

  • Respond to phone, email, and drop-in inquiries regarding event space and schedule appointments to show either facility.
  • Be able to show prospective renters what is and isn’t feasible at both facilities.
  • Guide renters through the rental and reservation process, and keep in contact with all upcoming event groups and adjust to their changing needs.  Keep current on deposits and payments with bookkeeper.
  • Stay in contact with facility attendants on scheduling, policies, procedures, and each renting group’s needs.
  • Update other staff as needed on event information, and work with staff to ensure events are successful and renter’s needs are met.  Keep accurate and up-to-date information on each event.
  • Complete set up and clean up according to renter’s specifications when groups opt for that service.  Monitor facility calendar to determine optimal time for tear down.
  • Secure linens for events that opt for the service.
  • Take calls and questions at all hours regarding events and issues that arise during those events.

Job Requirements:

  • Two years experience with undergraduate degree in sales, marketing, hospitality and restaurant program OR four years experience in managing large-scale events for a customer-related program.
  • Flexibility in hours and ability to juggle two or more projects at same time
  • Experience in handling and managing a budget for event
  • Good communication skills, written and spoken, in dealing with in-house staff as well as the customer
  • High energy level to work longer hours if necessary
  • Creative skills to design an event on limited budget
  • Ability to work with volunteers

Position is 30 hours per week, with flexibility in hours and days worked. Some weekend duties.

Salary is dependent on experience level of applicant.  The job has paid leave plus nine paid holidays. Health insurance available with 100% paid by employer.  Please send resume to the following:

Attendant (Paid temporary position)
This position handles the after-hours responsibilities of rentals and special events, both at the Peel Mansion and the Compton Conference Center. We prefer that attendants specialize in one facility. Hours depend on the needs of the client. Attendants are paid $10 an hour, with a two-hour minimum. They are paid directly by the client at the event’s conclusion. You must be able to work odd hours, both early morning and/or weekends. Preference for those with knowledge of audio-visual set-up and flexibility in schedule. Training is provided for both facilities.


Internships (Unpaid with mileage reimbursement)
Both facilities are eager to work with college students who wish to receive either cooperative education credits or direct experience in their chosen field. Internships are available in flexible time slots, both long-term and short-time assignments. The following majors are particularly needed in the following:

  • Horticulture and Landscape Architecture
  • History
  • Communications and Journalism, including public relations and writing
  • Marketing
  • Restaurant and hotel management
  • Business administration
